A behind the sceens look at how the chrorus to August 13 (Sunday Morning) came about

It’s one of those songs that just come about. It’s really a lovely song that captures important elements of the Jamili Brown sound.  It has the acoustic guitar, a killer Josh bass line, beautiful song lyrics and harmonies in a ‘rap’ song.

The song wasn’t done and the biggest thing we needed was a chorus. Jamesom Taylor French came over and after talking through it......‘darlin I’m so tangled. Caught from every angle. You’re taking over me. Slowly I dismantle, I fight to reassemble, as you’re racing through my dreams.’ Don’t you love real songwriters!?>

Blackbird

Josh: In the early days, the guys just wanted me to play guitar. Anthony and I both went to Bellarmine together and it just kinda happened. I can’t remember how but it did. So anyways there’s this song “Blackbird.” And we were prepping for a show. The guys wanted to see what I could do with my instrument so they give me a  copy and then later, we hook back up so they can hear. Man you shouldve seen their faces.

The song really is  easy to play but it’s one of the people’s favorites. Keith: It’s everything the song stands for. Empowering people. Giving hope. In these days everything is so bleak and one aspect about us is the fact that we always want to say something positive in our music. We want to stand for something and that means alot in these days. We have a hip-hop foundation but that doesn’t mean we have to be negative.

Ant: I want music that will last. You can’t get that by just writing  dance tunes or flash in the pan songs. They come and go. I want something my mom can listen to. Thats the test of real music. Can you play it for your mom. Lol. Blackbird we can play for anybody. Lonnie: We’re all Tupac’s seeds man. Picking up where he left off. Sure we have our party and rock and roll songs but in the end, it’s about changing people’s lives through music.

Touch!

“she had a body like the autobahn fast line and curves but the rest is a blur....”

The Inspiration: “ I was out a bar on a cold cold night during Christmas break and met a few friends. One, in from New York, was dressed to impress. She had this very NYC outfit on. You know one of those you see in a fashion magazine and ask, “who in the hell would ever wear that?” Well it takes confidence and her friend was dressed the same. The mixture of techno music in the background really took my mind to another place.

Now, as an artist, this happens. Important note: Im an English major so I follow inspiration. I hardly ever come out of the house but when I do, I get something out of it. Maybe I need to more often. Nevertheless, I followed the night and went out afterwards and it was a ball. We ended up at this cafe eating breakfast at 4 in the morning and man it was weird because as soon as we sit down, theres two girls going at

each other. Straight red style. I mean yelling at each other going so crazy that the cook left the stove with spatchala in hand went outside and put everyone in check. I mean so random. Plus Keith gave me the Kanye 808 album which lit a fire under me. Then Josh came over and it’s a wrap. But anyways, I fall quickly and the girl with the Autobahn curves is an amazing individual. Much love and thx for the song! -xoxo Jenna Dean
